In line with the best of British education, we firmly believe in the importance of educating the whole child. We want every one of our pupils to be good people who make valuable contributions to their community and the wider world. PSHE (Pastoral, Social and Health Education) is an integral part of the topics studied. Through it, we focus specifically on important issues such as e-safety, citizenship and bullying.
Consistent approaches to behavior though the Golden Rules and Quality Circle time ensure that our pupils learn right from wrong and are able to accept responsibility for their actions. Class assemblies, an important time for sharing, are also linked to the PSHE curriculum. They give pupils the opportunity to demonstrate their increasing awareness of social and moral codes. Our pupils’ ingenuity and creativity on these occasions are truly admirable.
We believe wholeheartedly in helping our pupils become responsible, caring and proactive about making positive changes here at school and in the wider world, as well as helping them to develop their full potential. Each class selects a representative for the School Council and another for number of committee. Here pupils bring issues for discussion and push forward ideas to help our school, and country, become a better place.
They learn to be democratic and articulate and are justifiably proud of all they accomplish. We also encourage our pupils to take charge of their learning. Our older pupils run their own parent conferences. They explain how they have developed knowledge of themselves as learners in order to overcome challenges in the classroom and maximize their academic potential.
Our pupils also understand that our sense of happiness and wellbeing is often interconnected with that of others. Many of them therefore join the PAFS (Phonics Academia Friendship Squadron) to make sure no child spends playtime alone.
