Assessment & Interview

Upon receipt of your application, our Admissions office will be in touch to schedule an admissions assessment (if applicable) and interview. An admissions interview with the section coordinator will be conducted upon completion of the assessment

Assessment

We use age-appropriate assessments to help us to understand more about the learner who is joining our community; we do not use them to select (or exclude) children. Assessments vary depending on the age of your child. It is important to note that Phonics Academia is a passionately inclusive school; providing we believe we have the resources and expertise to support your child effectively then all children are welcome. We aim to make assessments as relaxed as possible to ensure your child feels comfortable and able to be themselves.

Sitting The Test

Assessment are usually conducted immediately after the registration of the child (if the child is ready for) or within a maximum period of next three working days.

Applicants will be requested to sit their assessment at the invitation of the Admissions Team. Normally this occurs when a space becomes available in a year group to which they are applying, however applicants may be requested to sit the assessment even when a place is not available. This ensures that they are on our waiting list and that the Principal can access as much information about the applicant as possible when reviewing or re-reviewing the application.Testing normally takes 1-2 hours based on the applicant’s age and testing required. Please note that an opportunity to interview and test does not guarantee placement at Phonics Academia School.

The nature of the assessment varies for different year groups and parent may require meeting a member of the Admission Office. Children who require learning or language support will be assessed carefully to determine whether the School is able to effectively support their needs. All forms of assessments conducted are a property of the School and will be kept private and confidential.

Students must take entrance tests in: English, Mathematics & Urdu. The tests can be taken at any time at Phonics Academia.

Note: For Admission to Foundation Stage 1(playgroup), there are no tests or interviews. The teacher observes / interacts with the child along with the parents

Interview

Parents should arrange an admissions interview at the school. During this interview, they will have the opportunity to receive more information about the school and also have a tour of the facilities.

At Phonics Academia the interview is as pleasant and non-intimidating as we can make it. We are interested in knowing about the child's/ student's educational development, use of language, social skills, academic enthusiasms and extra-curricular interests. The aim of the interview is to find about what the student knows, understands and enjoys.

Meetings

As aforementioned, we always try to arrange meetings for you and your child with key staff. These are not interviews. Rather, they are a chance for us to learn more about your child’s learning and curriculum needs and to support you (especially in early years and primary school) with subject choices. In this way we can be sure that we are fully prepared to welcome your child on his or her first day at school.
